We strongly recommend that you complete your prenatal education no later than your 36th week of pregnancy. Starting this course between weeks 28-32 will allow you time to comfortably integrate the content into your birth preparation and further explore topics that spark your interest.
Note: Many classes fill up quickly! If you would like to take our Childbirth Prep 6 Week Series you may need to begin prior to 28 weeks.
This workshop is designed to support and educate pregnant people and their partners about the process of breast/chest-feeding, and give the birthing person the tools they need to successfully begin nursing their newborn with confidence.
During this class the following topics will be covered:
-Health benefits to the lactating parent and baby
-Basic anatomy and physiology of the breast
-Care of the nursing parent
-How to read baby’s feeding cues
-How to initiate breastfeeding
-Correct positioning and latch
-Problem solving
-Bonding with your baby
-Locating community lactation resourcesPumping and bottle feeding will be discussed only briefly as one alternative to supplement your newborn in the early days if needed/desired. You will be provided with additional resources to explore regarding pumping to introduce the first bottle and pumping in order to return to work.

-Birth partner/support person is included in the registration fee.
-Birth partner/support person can NOT be a pregnant friend.
-Pregnant friends attending together need to register independently.

Amy Clark is a Registered Nurse and Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Since 1995, Amy has worked in a variety of healthcare fields and brings a wealth of medical knowledge to the Natural Resources team. Amy is dedicated to offering “best practice” guidelines for breastfeeding and infant nutrition, as well as realistic goals for families.
Nile Nash MSN, RN, WHNP-BC, CNM is a mama of two little boys and currently offers postpartum midwifery care packages and sleep consultations. Nile is also a certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician through Safe Kids Worldwide and will renew her certification every two years. Nile’s technician number is SKID #T839019. Her practice, Mama Lion, was born in 2005 when she started out as a DONA Doula and Birthing From Within Mentor before attending UCSFs MEPN Masters program from 2007-2010 to become a nurse midwife. Mama Lion Midwifery thrived in San Francisco for 9 years in the beautiful community of homebirth midwives in the Bay Area. The last few years have been consumed by birthing and raising two little ones during the pandemic and tending to her family. The newest chapter of her calling as a midwife has focused Niles professional role on the fourth trimester postpartum period. Mama Lion now cares for families who birth in the hospital but have the wisdom to set up a postpartum plan. Nile is thrilled to be working with the Natural Resources family as the newest facilitator of the New Mothers Circle and the Pregnant Together Circle.
